Drooling Over Hostels

The Loft Hostel, Budapest

As the application deadline for my study abroad program to Switzerland gets closer and closer, I am getting more and more excited. I won’t be leaving until the end of the summer, but I’m already preoccupied with excitement. There is so much to do to prepare, and it’s the best research project I could ever ask for. Childhood dreams coming true feels so surreal. Ah! The excitement is ever-building.

Unfortunately, this anticipation at times takes priority over more pressing matters- like homework. So, briefly, before I return to my midterm studying, I need to share tonight’s Euro-planning activity- hostel hunting!

I always pictured hostels as a glorified homeless shelter, and of course I’ll reserve final judgement until post-Euro- when with any luck I’ll be able to give a dissertation on the state of cheap student housing in European cities, BUT- based on the hostels I am seeing on websites like:

and

Hostels look amazing! All of these places have character, seem to be in the centre of town and are super cheap. Again, maybe they’re dirty and maybe a cheap bed means sleeping in the same room as not just the beautiful charming travellers, but the less appealing of the backpacker set. But I suppose, if that’s the case, take the good with the bad, stay safe and take good notes so you can tell good stories.

The only downside to a hostel is you cant pick the people around you so in that respect, in my experience anyway, it really is the luck of the draw!
